I recently had the pleasure of touring with Kyoto Bike Travel for one day through the Kyoto region. I arrived promptly at 9am and was greeted warmly by the staff, including my guides Nobu and Kyo. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and they were able to accommodate my last-minute request for luggage on my rental BMW R1300GS (to bring some rain gear and personal items). The bike looked great; nearly brand new, clean, fueled and ready to go. I had brought my own helmet with a Bluetooth communicator, and after some fiddling (these things rarely connect easily), we were hooked-up and on our way.

Nobu planned a route that included a variety of scenery and road types. After getting through some heavy local traffic, we were soon in the mountains on nice, curvy roads. Nobu and Kyo were happy to ride at a pace I was comfortable with. As expected in June, the weather was hot and rain was threatening the whole day (thankfully it never did). We took several breaks to cool off a bit and get some lunch (some great local place I don’t remember the name of). Besides the mountains, we had some time along the sea, which provided some really nice scenery.

Overall it was an excellent experience. The communication via email in the weeks leading up to the trip was very good; they asked how long I wanted to ride, and took care of the rest. The guides were friendly and accommodating. Finally, the price was reasonable for what was delivered; a premium motorcycle touring experience. I highly recommend Kyoto Bike Travel. Next time, I hope to have more time to do one of their multi-day tours.
